Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) was awarded the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) accolade 14001 related to Environment Management System (EMS). Bureau Veritas country chief executive Shakir Rasheed presented a plaque to Bapco chief executive Abdulkarim Al Sayed to mark the achievement during the ceremony held on Jan 26, 2009 at the Bapco Club in Awali.
 “The effective implementation of EHS is a key and complementary element of Bapco's philosophy. The development of an effective EMS has been a central need and ultimate priority, therefore, Bapco has adopted the international standards of ISO 14001 as a model to development of EMS in the company", Mr. Al Sayed said.
The first stage of ISO 14001 certification audit was conducted by auditors from Bureau Veritas (BV)on October 2009 by Bureau Veritas and stage two of evaluation conducted on early December 2008.
It is worth mentioning that the foundations of developing the EMS were laid over 10 years ago with the establishment of the environmental affairs committee and development of a comprehensive environmental compliance plan to minimise the environmental impact of our operations on air, water and land.
